The Northern Lights, also called as Aurora Boralis, is seen in Iceland in the winter months. During this tour you pass beautiful lava fields, a number of hot spring areas, semi-frozen waterfalls and historic sites. Day 1,Home-Keflavík/Reykjavik – Borgarnes
Arrive at Reykjavik or Keflavik (Recommended Keflavik for this tour). Then pick up the rental car at the airport. You can immediately enjoy the wonderfully warm waters of the Blue Lagoon (entrance exclusive, reservation recommended). Blue Lagoon is located a short distance from the airport. After the visit you continue along extensive lava fields to the first overnight address in Borgarnes.
Day 2,Borgarnes – Reykholt
Today you drive to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Depending on the weather conditions you will visit the entire peninsula. Otherwise a part of it. The peninsula is dominated by the glacier Snæfellsjökull. This glacier is where Jules Verne started his 'journey to the center of the earth'. Lovers of a warm natural bath should not miss in Landbrotalaug.
Reykholtsdalur is also an option; a beautiful valley including the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, the historic town of Reykholt and the hot spring area Deildartunguhver. You will stay two nights near Reykholt.
Day 3,Reykholt
This day, explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula further. There are many fishing villages and a number of short walks. One of them is the coastal walk Arnarstapi-Hellnar. Further, the lava field walk at Búðir and the walk to the explosion crater Eldborg are secondary walks. You can also read in the Dominicus travel guide about some warm baths and the beautiful side valley Hítardalur.
Day 4,Reykholt – Reykjavík
Visit the three highlights of the famous Golden Circle. These are Þingvellir National Park, the 'golden waterfall' Gullfoss and the hot spring area with the spouting geysers at Geysir. You will spend the last night in Reykjavik.
Day 5,Reykjavík/Keflavik-Home
You drive to Keflavík airport (alternatively Reykjavik), where you return the rental car. Then fly back to your home country. End of a wonderful tour in Iceland.
